# Scanning tips

ScanMyCube finds the cube itself, anywhere in the picture, whatever is behind it. These tips make each face read first time.

## Light

- **Face a window or a lamp.** Light should fall on the cube from in front or from the side, not from behind you or behind the cube.
- **Avoid harsh glare.** Stickers are shiny: a bright reflection washes a sticker towards white. ScanMyCube reads each sticker at five points and ignores washed-out ones, but a sticker that's entirely glare can't be read. Tilt the cube slightly to move the reflection off it.
- **Daylight helps red and orange.** Warm indoor bulbs push them together.

## Holding the cube

- **Hold one face flat to the camera**, filling roughly the guide square. It can be off-centre or slightly tilted.
- **Keep your fingers on the edges of the cube, not over stickers.**
- **Hold still for about a second.** With Capture automatically on, the outline fills up and the face is taken when the reading is steady.
- **Follow the arrows.** They show which way to turn the cube for the next face. The cube preview turns with you.

## If something reads wrong

On the Check step:
- Pick a colour and click a sticker to fix it.
- Or click a face letter to rescan just that face.

## Common mistakes

- **Scanning against a bright window.** The camera darkens the whole image and the colours go muddy. Turn round so the window lights the cube instead.
